SOJOURN 入土为安

Film and Production

入土为安 Sojourn is a short documentary on fading Chinese American customs for honoring the dead and the impermanence of the

cemeteries that they rest in. Contemplating the importance of remembrance, the film follows the journey of Chinese American elders to

cemeteries for their annual Qingming visit and back into their San Francisco Chinatown huiguan, or community organizations. There they

recount an unsettling history, and an even more uncertain future for those who pass away. Trying to find permanence within liminality, the

elders emphasize ancestral honoring, but more fundamentally, remembering to remember.
